Summer Reading Challenges 2022

As teachers you work so hard to teach your students to read during the school year. So, of course, you want them to continue reading during the summer! You definitely don’t want them to lose anything they have gained during the year and you want them to keep improving during the summer months June, July, and August. Here are a few, free ideas to keep your students (or children) reading this summer. (Last updated: May 2022)

1. Barnes & Noble: Students simply read a designated number of books – library books, books borrowed from friends or books bought at Barnes & Noble – write about their favorite part in the Reading Journal (from Barnes & Noble), and bring a completed Reading Journal to a Barnes & Noble bookstore. Children then choose their free book from the books listed on the Reading Journal and collect their free book from a store near them. This year teens and adults are included in this challenge. 4. Camp BOOK IT: Your students will track their reading for the summer months in their digital dashboard. If they meet their monthly reading goal, then they receive a free Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut! Click HERE to learn more and enroll.

5. Your local library!! Encourage your students to get a library card and use it all summer long! Many local libraries also offer their own summer reading challenge and story times with fun activities. Before the school year is over, you may want to take a field trip to your local library and let your students have a look around to get familiar.

Another fun way to keep your students reading this summer is with this cute Summer Reading Goal writing activity. Click HERE to check it out in my TpT shop and set reading goals with your students before the school year is over!
