Chicka Chicka... BOOM BOOM!

Last year I had a jungle themed classroom.

I also incorporated the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom book into a lot of classroom activities.

So I created a Chicka Chicka, Boom Boom bulletin board to welcome my new students on the first day of school! Each letter represents a student and I wrote their names the letters. I couldn't find a purple and orange polka-dotted boarder, so I made this one with construction paper and a hole puncher!

Here are some of my other jungle themed bulletin boards:

I would even use Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to get my students attention.

I would say, "Chicka Chicka!"
and my students would stop what they were doing,
put their eyes on me and say, "BOOM! BOOM!"

Even though I love the jungle theme...
next year I am thinking it will be a circus in my classroom...

What theme is your classroom?

Thanks for reading! Don't forget to follow me on FacebookInstagram, and Pinterest

  1. PENGUINS! I don't do a ton of stuff with the theme, but the first day of school I have the door decorated like an iceberg with all the kids' names on penguins.
Our line up rhyme is "Standing in line is easy to do when you take care of only you. Flippers are forward, wings to the side. Lips are closed we walk with pride!"
And we read lots of Tacky the Penguin books!!! And I have a book tub dedicated to penguin stories.
Of course, we have to do a penguin study! Last year we had to do it in May, but I am convinced I'll make it work in December or January this coming year :)
    Its a fun one!

  4. Too Cute!! I am thinking I would like to do the detective themed one although we can't get to involved with bulletin boards because of our district's paper rule.

  5. I have a ladybug theme and I got some of the cutest gifts from my students this year to go with that theme so I am going to stick with it again. I am the only one at my school to have a theme so I hear kids (and parents) saying, "You know, the ladybug room." LOL.

  9. I was just having this conversation with a team member. She does a huge ocean unit, so I suggested "having a whale of a time in first grade". I've never really used a theme, but this year I may go for it. Thinking, thinking, hmmm...

  12. At my school, each teacher has a theme based on their last name. I'm Morse's Monkeys. Everyone always jokes with me and says I should be Morse's Horses. I don't think so! The theme never really changes unless you get married. I have a Top Banana (my star student) and a beginning of the year bulletin board that says "Swingin' into First Grade."

  14. Thanks! Love the postcard! I do a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom bulletin board at the beginning of the year, very similar to yours so the postcard will be great.

The last couple years we have done a Hawaii theme, ending the year with a "trip" to Hawaii. This coming year I am going to do a Dr. Seuss theme, using a different book of his each week.

  17. I do a crayon theme - a big 3D crayon bulletin board outside my room with the kids names on each crayon (looks like a pack of Crayola crayons). Inside I have my table signs the shape and colour of crayons - oh, by the way, I'm Canadian (hence the spelling of colour - ha ha!).

    Thanks for sharing your ideas!
