a phonics unit: "y" ending replaced with "ies"

I had one little girl say to me this week:
Mrs. Lindsey, this is my favorite-est characters you have made!

 I designed this unit to teach my students about "y" ending plural words.
For Example: baby --> babies

After creating these letter characters, I told my students that poor old "Y" is allergic to "S" because of her perfume and flowers. "Y" is sad he is allergic to her, because he thinks she is so nice and pretty. Nevertheless, whenever "S" comes around, "Y" has to get lost because of his allergies. Thank goodness "I" and "E" are willing to take his place... In fact, they are more than happy to! They love "S" and they always get dressed up for her and bring her flowers!

The first person to comment will get this unit free!

  2. I LOVE the idea of telling your students that the s is allergic to y. That is such a great idea! I hope I'm the first one to comment because this unit looks adorable!

  9. Could "y" be allergic to the suffixes "er" and "est" too using your same story and the allergy medicine also works?

    happy . . . happier

    gray . . . grayer . . . grayest (allergy medicine in front of "y" so, don't need to change the "y" to an "i")
